Vietnam’s Most Spectacular Festival

The Mid-Autumn Festival (Tết Trung Thu) in Tuyên Quang is not your typical lantern celebration — it’s the largest and most elaborate in all of Vietnam. Every year in September/October, the city transforms into a wonderland of enormous illuminated lantern floats, some reaching 10 meters in height, depicting dragons, phoenixes, historical scenes, and fantastical creatures. Tens of thousands of visitors flood the city for the grand parade, which rivals major carnivals worldwide.

Tân Trào National Historical Site

In the forest of Tân Trào, Hồ Chí Minh established the headquarters of the Vietnamese revolution in 1945. Under a great banyan tree — the Tân Trào Banyan — the National Congress convened to declare the general uprising that led to the August Revolution. Today, the site preserves Hồ Chí Minh’s stilt house, the Hồng Thái communal house where the Congress met, and forest trails connecting various revolutionary locations.

Na Hang Lake & Waterfall

Na Hang reservoir, surrounded by dramatic limestone karst mountains and primary forest, is one of northern Vietnam’s most breathtaking landscapes. Take a boat across the jade-green lake, weaving between towering karst pillars draped in vegetation, to reach waterfalls and caves accessible only by water. The area is home to the rare Tonkin snub-nosed monkey — one of the world’s 25 most endangered primates.
