Land of Poetry & Perseverance

Hà Tĩnh is famous throughout Vietnam as the birthplace of Nguyễn Du (1766–1820), author of Truyện Kiều (The Tale of Kiều) — considered the greatest work of Vietnamese literature. This narrative poem of 3,254 verses tells the tragic story of a young woman’s sacrifice and resilience, and its lines are quoted daily by Vietnamese people of all generations.

Nguyễn Du Memorial & Museum

Visit the Nguyễn Du Memorial in Tiên Điền village, where the poet was born and raised. The complex includes his family’s ancestral house, a museum displaying manuscripts and literary analysis, and a serene garden shaded by ancient trees. Poetry readings and cultural events are held here annually on his death anniversary.

Thiên Cầm Beach

One of north-central Vietnam’s most beautiful beaches, Thiên Cầm stretches for 3 kilometers between two headlands. The beach is virtually untouched by mass tourism — expect fine sand, clean water, and mountainous scenery. Local seafood restaurants serve the day’s catch grilled over coconut shell charcoal.

Vũ Quang National Park

Vũ Quang gained international fame in 1992 when scientists discovered the saola (Pseudoryx nghetinhensis) — the “Asian unicorn” — the first large mammal discovered by science in 50 years. The park’s dense forests along the Lao border remain one of Vietnam’s most biodiverse regions, sheltering species found nowhere else on Earth.
